Artist Tom Maniaci graduated from the Kansas
City Art Institute in 1978 with a BFA in
Design. He then spent a semester at the
University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee studying
film history and editing. During this time
he was becoming a popular local artist,
painting murals for local businesses and
residences there in his home town.
In 198O, he put away his paint brushes,
moved to Detroit and began a career in
advertising. He’s done award-winning work as
Art Director and Writer for such clients as
Black & Decker, Buick, Cellular One, D.O.C,
GMC Truck, NAPA, Pro Golf, Weight Watchers
and many more. Along the way he
re-discovered his love for film and has been
directing television commercials for several
years now.
Tom never completely abandoned his less
commercial art, but found very little time
to paint. Then in late 2OO1, urged by a
colleague, he took a sketch he did of a
friend and turned it first into a 24”x24”
print, and then into a 54”x54” acrylic
painting. The reaction to the new work was
very exciting, and soon other friends and
associates were requesting that Tom
translate their faces into his Pop Art
portraits. And now you can commission a
portrait of yourself or anyone you know.
